About the Festival

The Franschhoek Wine Valley, the Cape's very own French outpost, invites you to join them in celebrating Bastille on the weekend of 15th and 16th July 2023. The valley is set to be a hive of activity and French flair, offering a weekend of indulgent food and the renowned fine wines of Franschhoek.

Don your berets and all things red, white, and blue as you revel in the French ambience of the magnificent Winelands. Stroll through the vibrant main road and share in the merriment, bespoke village shopping and lively street entertainment of local drummers, musicians and performance artists. This year, Prescient is the proud partner to the Bastille Festival and all its Main Street festivities and celebrations.

If further incentive to dress up is needed, fantastic prizes can be won for the best-dressed attendees over the weekend. The competition promises to be fierce as visitors show off their best red, white, and blue attire and are encouraged to don period pieces- with the best dressed person winning a coveted return air ticket to France, generously sponsored by Air France.

Franschhoek, long since renowned for its wine production and culinary delights, has earned a reputation as one of the top wine destinations globally. The Bastille weekend offers the perfect backdrop for guests to immerse themselves in French culture and nods to France’s rich heritage, specifically commemorating the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789. Those who prefer to soak up the vibrant atmosphere, sans wine tasting ticket, are welcome to wander the streets, shopping local and enjoying lunch in one of many renowned restaurants flying the flag over the Bastille weekend.

Allowing all visitors to get a taste of France in South Africa, whilst enjoying all Franschhoek has to offer, this is a ‘must’ for the winter calendars and pre-booking is essential to avoid disappointment.

This event is proudly brought to you by Franschhoek Wine Valley and our sponsors, Prescient, Air France, and INEOS Grenadier, the uncompromising 4x4.

In 2017, INEOS Chairman Jim Ratcliffe, a car enthusiast, and experienced adventurer, identified a gap in the market for a stripped-back, utilitarian, hard-working 4x4 engineered for modern-day compliance and reliability.

INEOS Automotive Limited was formed and a senior team of automotive professionals assembled to bring the vision to reality with a fresh perspective of 4x4 development and manufacturing. Combining rugged British spirit with German engineering, the Grenadier is a genuinely uncompromising 4x4 built from the ground up. Engineered to overcome all conditions, it will provide the best-in-class off-road capability, durability, premium quality, and reliability to those who depend on a vehicle as a working tool, daily driver, or holiday adventurer wherever they are in the world.

INEOS Grenadier is proud to partner with the Bastille Festival 2023 and showcase the Grenadier 4X4. Being proudly built in France, engineered in Germany, designed in the UK, and made to handle the rigours of adventuring through Africa, the Grenadier truly is a 4X4 for the world.
